Worcester, Mass. - Senior Reilly O'Keefe (Warren, Mass.)
recorded game-highs of 14 points and 11 rebounds to help lead
Worcester State to a 53-32 victory this evening over Framingham
State in MASCAC Women's Basketball action at the Lancer Gymnasium.
The Lancers (12-9, 6-3 MASCAC) were also paced by junior Alexis
George's (Worcester, Mass.) 13 points while freshman Meaghan
O'Keefe (Warren, Mass.) was a spark off the bench with eight points
and six boards. Third-year Becca Giguere (W. Brookfield, Mass.)
finished the evening with seven assists for WSC.
Senior Toya Chester (Leominster, Mass.) led the Rams (10-9, 4-5
MASCAC) with a team-high 10 points while freshman Kia Minor (Oak
Bluffs, Mass.) added eight points and six caroms.
Chester, junior Nicole McConaghy (Medford, Mass.) sophomore
Emily Clark (Melrose, Mass.) and freshman Michelle Hagerty
(Somerville, Mass.) each corralled six rebounds apiece for the
visitors as McConaghy also dished out four assists.
Trailing 6-5 five minutes into the contest, the Lancers used a
17-3 run to take a commanding 23-8 lead with 6:14 remaining in the
opening period. WSC was aided by poor shooting from the field by
Framingham State who ended the stanza shooting 23 percent
(7-for-30).
With WSC up 27-10, the Rams responded with an 8-2 spurt - as
they connected for their last three field goal attempts - to trail
by 11 at the intermission (29-18).
Chester scored the opening bucket of the second half for
Framingham State before the Lancers went back up into double-digits
and extended the advantage to as many as 21 points for the final
score. The Rams only made five shots in the final period as O'Keefe
scored eight of her 14 points in the frame.
Nearly everyone who stepped onto the floor for the Lancers
recorded an assist as the team handed out a season-best 19 assists
on 22 makes from the field. WSC also shot for 40 percent for the
game (22-for-55) and controlled the paint with a 24-6 edge in the
category.
FSC shot 19 percent for the game and only hit one of their 19
attempts from three point land as they recorded a season low 32
points in the contest.
Both squads will entertain MASCAC opponents on Tuesday as
Worcester State hosts Fitchburg State at 6 p.m., while the Rams
entertain Salem State at 5:30 p.m.
