Framingham, Mass. - Junior midfielder Rob O'Doherty (Shrewsbury,
MA) scored two goals to propel the Framingham State College men's
soccer team to their first win of the season today 4-0 over Elms
College at Framingham's Maple Street Field. The Rams improve
to 1-2 on the season, while the Blazers fall to 1-1.
O'Doherty, who leads the Rams with three goals this season,
scored the game winner just 6:05 into the game as he took a cross
from junior forward Jason Silva (Northbridge, MA) and fired a shot
into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead.
The Rams would add two goals late in the first half to extend
their lead to 3-0 at the break. Junior midfielder Scott Faria
(Fall River, MA) found freshman Erick Nader (Framingham, MA) in
front of the net and Nader connected for his first collegiate goal
in the 32nd minute. Silva then picked up his
second assist of the day with just 38 seconds left in the half as
he sent the ball through to freshman forward Jepherson Cardoso
(Framingham, MA). Cardoso then beat the Blazers net minder
with a well placed shot.
O'Doherty connected on his second of the day in the
82nd minute to reach the final margin of 4-0.
The Rams, who held a 21-4 advantage in shots on the day, outshot
the Blazers 9-2 in the first half. Sophomore Ryan Sullivan
(Agawam, MA) made 11 saves in net for the Blazers, while freshman
Sam Yoder (Southbridge, MA) made two saves in his first collegiate
start and picked up the shutout win.
The Rams return to action on Saturday as they travel to WPI at
11 a.m., while the Blazers travel to Springfield College at 3 p.m.
on Saturday.
