Worcester, Mass. - Senior forward Joe Hurley (Charlestown,
Mass.) scored two goals including the game-winner to lead the
Framingham State College ice hockey team to a 5-3 win over
Worcester State in Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference
(MASCAC) action at Horgan Arena this afternoon. Framingham
rookie head coach T.J. Brown picks up his first win on the FSC
bench as the Rams snap a 44 game winless streak dating back to the
2007-2008 season. With the win, the Rams improve to 1-3-1 on
the season and 1-2 in the MASCAC, while the Lancers fall to 2-3
overall and 0-2 in conference.
Trailing 1-0 midway through the first period, the Rams picked up
their offensive pressure, outshot the Lancers 16-6 in the frame and
were able to take a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.
Senior forward Matt Lally (Natick, Mass.) scored off an assist from
Trevor Johnson (Anchorage, AK) at 10:49 to tie the game. Four
minutes later sophomore Nick Jackson (Las Vegas, NV) scored off a
feed from Hurley at 14:09 to give the Rams their first lead at 2-1.
Worcester State tied the game just 1:35 into the second period
on Mark Rintel's fourth goal of the year. The game would
remain tied until Hurley scored his first of the game at 15:34 in
the second giving the Rams a 3-2 lead. Their lead would be
short lived as under a minute later Rintel added his second of the
game for Worcester to tie the game at 3-3. Hurley gave
the Rams the lead for good just 29 seconds later as he scored what
proved to be the game-winner. Sophomore Kevin Kelley (Bay
Side, N.Y.) and junior Blair Nickerson (Beverly, Mass.) assisted on
the game-winner.
Johnson added an insurance goal for the Rams in the opening
minutes of the third period to give the Rams a two goal lead.
Framingham State was able to keep the Lancers off the board in
the final period and junior Terence Sullivan (Shirley, Mass.) made
33 saves in the game en route to his first win, while Zach Hansen
also made 33 stops for the Lancers in a losing effort.
The Rams return to action on Tuesday night as they host UMass
Boston at Loring Arena at 7:20 p.m
