Framingham, Mass. - Sophomore forwards Rob Dudley (Stoughton,
Mass.) and Giancarlo Capodanno (Mountainside, NJ) and freshman
forward Dave McDonald (Wakefield, Mass.) each scored a goal and
handed out an assists to lead the UMass Dartmouth ice hockey team
to a 5-2 win today over Framingham State in Massachusetts State
College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action at Framingham's Loring
Arena.
The Corsairs improve to 7-10-1 on the season and 2-8-1 in
conference, while the Rams fall to 1-14-2 overall and 1-10-1 in the
MASCAC.
UMass Dartmouth scored two goals in the first period to take
control of the game. Dudley scored just seven minutes in off
assists from Capodanno and senior Aaron Blades (Chino, CA), who
finished the game with two helpers. McDonald gave the
Corsairs a 2-0 lead in the 18th minute on his second
goal of the season.
The Corsairs outshot the Rams 34-28 in the game and tacked on
two more goals in the second period. Capodanno scored the
game winner off assists from Dudley and Blade at 14:21.
Framingham State sophomore forward Charles Vaillancourt (La Valle,
WI) scored just 20 seconds later to pull the Rams within two, but
Paul Graham's (Quincy, Mass.) goal two minutes later put UMass
Dartmouth back up by three heading into the third period.
Mike Owens (South Boston, Mass.) extended the UMD lead to four
goals with his tally at 13:09 in the third. Senior Matt Lally
(Natick, Mass.) scored a power-play goal and his fourth of the
season for the Rams at 17:44 to finish off the scoring.
Junior Collin Tracy (Medford, Mass.) made 26 saves for the
Corsairs and picked up the win to improve to 1-1 on the year for
the Corsairs, while junior Terence Sullivan (Shirley, Mass.) made
29 saves for the Rams.
The Rams return to action on Wednesday as they host Stonehill at
7:20 p.m., while the Corsairs travel to Fitchburg State on Thursday
at 7 p.m.
