Framingham, Mass. - Sophomore goalie Nick Blanchette (Stuart,
Fla.) made 30 saves and allowed only one goal as the Assumption
College ice hockey team defeated the Framingham State Rams 6-1 in
non-conference action tonight at Framingham's Loring Arena.
With the win the Greyhounds improve to 5-6 on the season, while the
Rams fall to 1-9-1.
The Greyhounds took the lead for good 10:22 into the game as
junior Marc Labb (Longmeadow, Mass.) took a pass from freshman Dave
Maiocco (Medford, Mass.) and connected on his first goal of the
season. Six minutes later Taylor Larsen (Blackstone, Mass.)
extended Assumption's lead to 2-0 on a power play goal that also
proved to be the game winner.
Just over five minutes into the second period, the Rams had a
chance to cut the deficit back to one, but an apparent goal was
waved off because the net had been dislodged. Assumption took
advantage and added two goals in the final ten minutes of the
second period to push their lead to 4-0 at the second intermission.
In the third, senior Brett Casavant (Gardner, Mass.) scored a
power play goal off assists from Jason Anderson (Arden Hills, MN)
and Blair Nickerson (Beverly, MA) to make the score 4-1 at the 8:06
mark. Two minutes later, Pat O'Kane (Hollis, NH) scored a
power play goal to put the Greyhounds back up by four and Patrick
Fitzgibbons (Worcester, Mass.) added a late goal to reach the final
score.
Adam Gaudreau (Londonderry, NH), Larsen, and O'Kane each scored
a goal and picked up an assist for the Greyhounds, while Jamie Vona
(West Seneca, NY) and Mike Looney (Shrewsbury, Mass.) added two
assists apiece.
Junior Terence Sullivan (Shirley, Mass.) made 18 saves on the
night for the Rams.
Both teams return to MASCAC action on Thursday, January
14th at Westfield State at 7:35 p.m., while the
