Fitchburg, MA - The Fitchburg State ice hockey team collected a
convincing 6-1 victory over Framingham State College in ECAC
Northeast action this evening at the Wallace Civic Center.
Sophomore John Goffredo (Washingtonville, NY) led the Fitchburg
State offensive front with three points on two goals and one
assist, while classmate Chris Riggs (Sewell, NJ) paced the Falcons
attack with three assists. Junior Andrew Hutton (Brewster, MA) was
also solid with one goal and one assist.
Freshman Michael Carroll (New City, NY) scored the lone
goal for Framingham State, while junior goalkeeper Andy Joyce
(Milford, MA) stopped 32 shots in net for the Rams.
Fitchburg State gained a 2-0 advantage early in the contest as
freshman Kris Threlkeld (Centerville, Ohio) and Goffredo found the
back of the net to spark the Falcons early. Threlkeld connected
first, scoring his first collegiate goal at the 14:27 mark, while
Goffredo tallied a score with 24 seconds remaining in the period.
In the second period, Framingham fought back as Carroll
connected for his first score of the season on an unassisted
power-play goal just 6:40 into the period. The Rams comeback was
short-live however, as Hutton put the Falcons up by two with his
second goal of the season.
The Falcons sealed their third victory of the season with an
explosive third period which witnessed goals by Goffredo, freshman
Travis Bertolotti (Miller Place, NY) and classmate Bryan Canter
(Anchorage, AK). Bertolotti opened the scoring surge with his first
collegiate goal at the 7:35 mark, while Canter and Goffredo
followed with back-to-back scores in a 1:39 span late in the frame.
Fitchburg State peppered the Framingham State defense throughout
the match, out-shooting the Rams 41-22. Sophomore goaltender Robert
Vorse (Leominster, MA) earned his second victory of the season,
totaling 21 saves in the complete game effort.
Fitchburg State (3-1-0, 1-1-0 ECAC NE) will be in action again
on Tuesday as it host Stonehill College at 7 p.m. Framingham State
(0-4-1, 0-3-1 ECAC NE) will travel to UMass Boston on Tuesday for a
match starting at 7 p.m.
