Boston, Mass. - Junior forward David Butler (Orlando, FL) of
Embry-Riddle University came two blocks shy of recording a
triple-double to lead ERU over the Framingham State men's
basketball team, 77-49, in first round action of the
25th Harbor Invitational on the campus of UMass Boston.
Embry-Riddle improves to 4-3 overall while the loss drops
Framingham down to 1-4 on the year.
Butler came off the bench to pick up 15 rebounds, 14 points and
a season-high eight blocked shots to lead a balanced offensive
attacked that saw three other players' net double figures.
With 8:48 remaining in the first half, the Eagles jumped out to
a 15 point cushion on a three point bucket by junior guard Glenn
Dalcourt (Franklin, KY) to make it a 27-12 game. Over the next five
minutes, Framingham was able to pull within four points after going
on a 13-2 run, capped by a layup from senior guard Chad Dixon
(Brockton, Mass.) with 3:41 left in the frame.
The Eagles answered with a 10-0 run of their own to close out
the half fueled by six points from Butler to give Embry-Riddle a
39-25 advantage at the half.
Dixon scored the first bucket of the second half to help
Framingham State cut the lead to 39-27, but the 12 point
differential was the closest the Rams would get as the Eagles
walked away with the eventual 77-49 victory.
Dixon finished the contest with 11 points to go along with five
rebounds, three assists and a steal while senior guard Bill Carey
(Abington, Mass.) contributed 11 points as well, including his
1,000 career point which came early in the second half on a
three-point field goal. Carey now has 1,004 career points.
For Embry-Riddle, sophomore guard Blake Touchard (Los Angeles,
CA) led the scoring effort with 16 points while grabbing six
boards. Junior forward Brett Rawlings (Chattanooga, TN) contributed
a solid 12 points to go along with seven rebounds while senior
forward Eric Lorenzi (Gainsville, FL) netted 10 points while
pulling down five rebounds in the winning cause.
All four teams will be back in action tomorrow in Day 2 of the
Harbor Invitational as Mount Ida, the winner of the other first
round match-up, will face off against Embry-Riddle University in
the championship game at 3:00 p.m. while UMass Boston will host
Framingham State in the consolation match up at 1:00 p.m.
